For a special day out with family, friends or business colleagues take a day trip on board one of our self-drive diesel narrow boats from Bath or hire one of our eight electric dayboats from our nearby Dundas base.

Hiring one of our day boats for a day trip is a great way to get a taste of the Kennet & Avon canal whilst having a great day out with friends and family. With each of our day boats holding between 2 to 12 people for the whole day, it offers great value for money too.

If you want a day out with a difference, or simply to relax with your family, or to celebrate something special, then hiring one of our self drive narrowboats would be the ideal solution.
If you have thought about taking a holiday on a canal boat and are not sure if you would like it, then this is also the ideal way to find out.
For businesses, our day boats are perfect for team development activities or a just a day out. For a small hen party, what a great way to have some fun with the girls along the canal.

We currently have the largest selection of dayboats available on the Kennet & Avon canal. There are sixteen boats for you to choose from our two bases at Sydney Wharf, Bath and Brassknocker Basin, nr Bath. Our dayboats are available for hire throughout the year and will each accommodate 1 to 12 people depending on which one you hire.

Your boat is ready for collection with a choice of starting times 9.00 am., 9:30am, 10.00 am.and 10.30a.m. You can choose to book half day, full day , lunch till evening in the summer and overnight for one, two days or more. We offer a personalised service for those who wish to get away from the rat race and enjoy the peace and freedom of the waterways for a few hours or a few days. Relax and enjoy the tranquillity of cruising at two or three miles an hour, getting close to wildlife, country pubs, historic towns and enjoying the heritage of the canal system and the fresh air and exercise that goes with the canal cruising experience.

From our base at Sydney wharf, Bathwick Hill, you can travel along the canal past the Holbourne museum, Sydney gardens and onwards to Bathampton. Your trip will take you through the beautiful Limpley Stoke valley past the George pub and onto Claverton where the famous pumping staion for the canal is. After Claverton, cruise onwards to Dundas aqueduct where you can moor up and walk a short distance to the Somerset Coal Centre where you will find the Angelfish restaurant. Here you can have a large selection of homemade foods such as cakes, scones, cream teas, freshly baked filled baguettes, salads, larger meals, ice creams and drinks. This will typically take you 2 hours to arrive here so in a day hire there is plenty of time to stop, eat and return to the base.

If you want to cruise further then continue over the Dundas aqueduct onto Avoncliff and Bradford on Avon, time permitting.
On a narrow boat you have all the time in the world to appreciate the landscape and the beauties of nature. Wildlife abounds - you may be lucky enough to see roe deer, mink, kingfishers and a wide variety of birds. You can spend a relaxing day exploring the Kennet & Avon Canal, on the 14 mile lock-free stretch from Bath to Bradford on Avon, experiencing the canal's unique mix of urban and rural environments which have many interesting architectural features including two swing bridges, Claverton pumping Station and the splendid Dundas & Avoncliff Aqueducts. Enjoy canalside villages such as Bathampton, Claverton, Avoncliff or the larger town of Bradford on Avon with its shops, parks, and restaurants.

Our canal narrowday boats provide comfortable seating, a fully equipped galley, toilet on-board and life-jackets can be provided to children and adults when requested. There is a fridge and hob on board for any cooking and to keep your drinks cool.

Alternatively, you can hire of our electric dayboats from our base at the Canal Visitor Centre , Brassknocker Basin, near Bath. The centre is based at the end of the Somerset Coal Canal where it joins onto the Kennet & Avon canal. From here you can decide whether you travel towards Bath, through the two swing bridges, bathampton and onto our base at Sydney wharf or you can cruise over the Dundas aqueduct along the Limpley Stoke Valley onto the Avoncliff aqueduct before returning back to the base.

You will receive full instructions on how to operate the boat so there is no need to worry if you haven't any experience of steering a boat.
It is possible to cruise all year round apart from days when there is thick ice on the canal or there are stoppages by British Waterways for essential repairs.
This truly delightful canal is one of Baths best kept secrets. In the spring the woods are full of kingcups and bluebells. There are flower-strewn water meadows in the summer. And, later in the year, the colours of autumn are really brought to life on the canal.

You will be surprised, above all, at the rural tranquility of this fascinating waterway, remarkable in its setting at the heart of this historic city.
It's a great way to see whether you'd want to spend longer on the canal and hire one of our eight Anglowelsh narrowboats for a holiday on the waterways.
So, why not try our day boat hire out for a fantastic day afloat?

KIND WORDS
Dear Bath Narrowboats,
I am writing to thank you for your expertise regarding our booking on the " Louisa Mary " on Thursday 18th August. It was part of a celebration for my father's 70th birthday. The family had converged on Bath from Exeter, York and London! Despite the torrential rain, we had a fabulous day on the canal. Even the most hesitant were old hands bt the time we returned! We found you so friendly and knowledgable. Thank you Helen Gibbs / David Oates

Just a note to say what a lovely day we had yesterday on the Lady Victoria. It was our joint 50th birthday and what a perfect way to adjust to the gentler pace of life we now face!
Excellent day, thanks and we thought it very good value. All the best Mr Trevor Fox, Partner - Fox Hartley Solicitors, Bristol

To Claire and all at Bath Narrowboats
I would like to thank you so much for the fabulous boat and day I had on the 24th - Harriet Parker and friends

Thank you again for all your help and advice. Much appreciated ! - Hazel Nendrick

Hi Claire,
I have just returned to work after a few days off and thought I would drop you a line to let you know that we all very much enjoyed our day on the Kennet & Avon.I would especially like to thank you for all of your help, patience and assistance you gave to me in setting the day up, you even managed to control the weather for us.
When we arrived I had already received a fair bit of stick from the team in regards to the deluge of rain as we arrived in Bath so I was feeling somewhat uptight and a little worried about how the day would progress. By the end of the day we were all very chilled and relaxed and everyone really enjoyed the day.
You had thought of absolutely everything we might need on board so our experience was just perfect. We have already recommended you to other departments so we hope you will receive lots of booking.
Again many thanks and hopefully we will see you again in the future.
Kind regards - Sue Stevens
